Why Lawn Irrigation is Important

No matter where you live or what type of home you own, the condition of your lawn says a lot about you and your landscaping ability. A lush green lawn sends a positive message to all who pass by, while a lawn filled with bare spots and brown patches says just the opposite.

Fortunately, keeping your lawn beautiful and green is not as hard as you might think. You do not have to spend a fortune on chemicals and additives or hire a professional landscaping service to keep your lawn lush and green all season long. In the end, the things your lawn needs are pretty simple — sufficient food and fertilizer, proper weed control and plenty of water.

Water, Water, Water!

That least requirement, sufficient water, is not always as easy as it sounds. In a perfect world Mother Nature would provide all the moisture your grass needs to grow thick and strong, but the world we live in today is far from perfect. In today’s world, drought conditions are common and growing more frequent, and that makes irrigating your lawn properly more important than ever before.

If you have not yet installed an irrigation system for your lawn, this season is the perfect time to get started. Even if you do not live in a drought-prone area, there are plenty of reasons to consider an irrigation system for your lawn.

Lawn irrigation provides a number of important benefits, starting with, but not ending with, the ability to use less less water. A good lawn irrigation system can save you thousands of gallons a year, and that means more money in your pocket.

A lawn irrigation system can also relieve you from many drought restrictions and help you maintain a lush green lawn even when rainfall is lacking. Since the irrigation system is designed to go on and off automatically, you do not have to worry about wasting water or spending more on your lawn than you need to.

Installing a lawn irrigation system can save water, but it also can save you time. Chances are you have better things to do with your spring and summer days, and a good irrigation system helps eliminate the drudgery of lawn care.

Let’s face it, watering your lawn with a hose is no fun. If you choose to water by hand, you could be spending hours standing in the lawn hose in hand. If you take the lazy way out and lay the hose down, you could forget to turn the water off and end up with a hefty water bill at the end of the month.

When you install an irrigation system for your lawn, you free yourself from all that tedious hard work and eliminate the risk of wasting water. You can simply set the timer on the irrigation system and let it do its thing.

Irrigation System Benefits

Installing an irrigation system has obvious benefits for your grass, helping you maintain a beautiful exterior landscape. All plants, including the blades of grass that make up your lawn, need a steady supply of fresh clean water, something that can be hard to supply with other watering methods.

When you use a lawn irrigation system, you know that every blade of grass is receiving just the amount of moisture it needs. Over time, that steady moisture will produce a lush green lawn you will be proud to show off to the neighbors.

When you understand your lawn's environmental needs and tailor your lawn care practices to suit local conditions, you get a healthy, environmentally friendly lawn.

Your Neighbors Will Be Green With Envy

Speaking of showing off to the neighbors, a lawn irrigation system can also improve the curb appeal of your home. Even if you are not in the real estate business, you probably realize just how important curb appeal is, and the impact it can have on the value of a property. If your home is on the market, doing everything you can to improve its appearance is one of the best ways to help it sell more quickly and for top dollar.

Potential buyers may choose to look elsewhere if they are greeted with a dull brown lawn, but they are more likely to stick around and see the property if the lawn is lush and green. The money you spend on that lawn irrigation system could come back to you many times over just from the improved curb appeal.

If you are looking for an investment that will pay dividends both now and in the future, think about installing a lawn irrigation system. You can enjoy a season full of lush green grass now, and a more beautiful – and valuable – landscape down the line.

This is some great information, and I appreciate your point that installing an irrigation system can save you water. My husband and I just moved into our first house, and the yard doesn’t have any sort of sprinkler system. We’d like to save time by having sprinklers installed, and knowing that it will save us water as well, we’ll definitely get that done. Thanks for the great post!
